Located in the Municipality of Calheta, to the west of the Island, a little over 20 minutes from Funchal, the Casa das Mudas Art Gallery represents, one of the most important investments made by Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Ponta do Oeste, S.A. Its singularity, starting by the architecture of the building, serves its purpose: raise awareness and interest in the public for art in general and modern art in particular. To reach this goal, the Sociedade de Desenvolvimento Ponta do Oeste is developing a program of activities with the hopes of diversifying the cultural agenda in Madeira, such as temporary exhibitions, theatre, dance, film and workshops among others.
This space, dedicated to art and culture, was only possible thanks to the Regional Governments’ vision of defending public interest and believing in the role that culture has to play as a governance element and its importance as a social cement and space for participation. The intentional location, of Casa das Mudas, deepens the concept of decentralization and democratization of access to culture in a space that should be open and in permanent construction.
The auditorium:
